It is very important to remember to stay out of the bike lane!!!! Now the bike lane is part of the sidewalk and not the rode. So if you stand on the wrong part of the sidewalk you will get runover. So usually I have Peter to pull me out of the way, but not today. Kate and I were on our own. Let's just say I am now deathly afraid of the 'bike lane.'
It is also important to remember to not stand on the edge of the sidewalk where it meets the rode. I almost got runover, again. As there is no 'shoulder' here.
So tonight, Peter and Judith took us out to dinner, again! Dinner here is not a quick in and out, usually a 3 to 4 hour affair, a new experience for me. So we went for Mexican food. It was ok...but let's just say the company was more entertaining...I tried 'Mexican Beer'- a mix of beer, tequila, seltzer water, and lime. It was disgusting!!! Then about 3 hours later, tequila shots were brought to the table, on the house. Judith and Peter have never had tequila, so we explained the whole shot thing with salt and lemon. Peter tried it with us, while Judith videotaped us. Then I had the second shot b/c well, I need it!!!
I find myself laughing at everything that Judith and Peter say. If I had grandparents growing up, this might have been what it would have been like!
So I miss regular water with ice. I just want a glass of water that magically refills itself when I'm out at a restaurant!! I don't want fizzy water, I don't want a bottle of 5 euro water. I want regular tap water that is never ending, and preferably with ice. I do not think I can get used to this water thing.
Here is a video of the surfers from the English Garden:
the gondola at the Bier Garten in the English Garden!!
I got a kick out of that!
The 'Mexican Beer' at the Mexican Restaurant.
The icecream dessert...strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, with fruit. It was good!
Wow sounds like there is a lot to learn so you don't get run over. Be careful. I will just rely on you when I get there:) Wouldn't it be nice if all meals were 3-4 hours long, then there would be no time to work, only eat and drink!
ReplyDeleteHi Amie! What is the temperature like there? I know you said the surfers are in wetsuits, but is it winter there? That Mexican Beer looks gigantic as does the dessert! Sounds like you're having a good time eating! Are there lots of vegetarian meals in restaurants? It sounds like you're starting to get comfortable there. I love the picture and video postings. You're good at this!! Peter and Judith sound like delightful hosts!
ReplyDeleteNancy- It is winter here, but for the most part has not been very cold. It's usually about +5-10 degrees (which is about 40 degrees F). It snowed one day, but we mostly, so far, get rain everyday. There are a few vegetarian restaurants...it helps that Peter and Judith are vegetarians. Peter and Judith are extremely delightful and welcoming. This experience would not nearly be the same without them.
