Leg warmers! I'm sure you all remember leg warmers. Guess where everyone still wears them? That's right...here in Germany! This may make the list of things I'm bringing back to the US!!
80's music!! LOVE IT!! Frankly, so far, there hasn't been a Saturday night without it! Madonna, Neil Diamond, I can't remember who else, but wow...you know the words and you just wanna sing along. And frankly, I do, and there may be a bit of dancin' around to go with it!!!
Let's talk other clothes items! I know skinny jeans are back in style, but remember when pants had an elastic band around the ankle? Really? Really? I am not a fan. I just want a normal pair of comfy pants, minus the elastic band at the ankle...no luck. There's leopard print everything and leather everything and gold, can't get enough of the gold!!
So I also mentioned how I LOVE the cars here...well, I am downright, obsessed! (with that and boots, but we'll get to that next!). It's all I think and look at when walking down the street. Some may want to admire the buildings or direction they're going, or bikes, but I keep my eyes on the cars. I found my dream car! And if I wait till 2014, it may come to the U.S. So those who know me, know how much I LOVE the smartcar. Well, there's a smart car 'forfour.' And lets just say, I got to ride in it last night! I'm working up to getting to drive it! So if I can't have it shipped to me, then I will wait till 2014 (I hope none of you think of getting it before me!!) :)
The Smart ForFour...LOVE it!!
On to boots...they are awesome here! I love all of them. I'm obsessed with shoes. I stare at everyone's feet and picture me wearing them! Even the men have awesome shoes. What could be better?
I haven't been doing too much lately. With not sleeping and all, it's making for a difficult wake experience. There was a Thursday night dinner/reunion with the German GEDS students who were in North Carolina last semester with the 2 of us and Peter and Judith....that turned into an alcohol filled evening. We were apparently in the fancy, expensive, Italian restaurant where the 'futbol' players and such eat out at. The food was awesome!! For the most part, I've eaten mainly Italian food and it has been great!! This was indescribably good. And those who know me, know I'm an Italian food snob, especially when it comes to pizza. This pizza was awesome!! It might have beat Pepe's from New Haven, CT!!
The penne alli arrabiata--the penne was just made!!
Kate and her AWESOME pizza! I tried a slice and it was to die for. That was the truffel one.
Friday was a shopping day and it was very successful. But people are pushy and fast and no one works it seems like. So it was exhausting!!
Last night, was dinner and bowling with the Germans! I can't tell you how much fun I had! I love my conversations with Germans--it always makes me laugh. So bowling was an experience. We determined it's kind of a cross between disco, a wedding, and bowling. So there was this DJ who at one point, while I was bowling, came out onto the lane area and was talking, of course I have no idea what he's saying, so I ignore him. Then everyone starts laying down on the bowling lane and then everyone else runs and lays on top of the person laying on the ground. Kate and I are of course just watching this whole thing unfold and are totally baffled and confused. It was pretty funny! The music was awesome. And another free drink last night was a shot of some margarita like drink.
Kate and I with our free shots...
Radler--the best drink...half beer/half lemonade. So good!
Bowling!!
Mikaela laying down...
Mikaela and all her friends on top...
Everyone else in the place doing the same thing...
Today was a museum day. Some old art/paintings. Ehh...I guess it's not my thing. I was totally bored. Lasting thoughts from today: why were all the women in the paintings wearing a shirt/dress that was pulled up to just below their breasts? why were all the other women only breast feeding? why was one of the women breast feeding like an animal on all fours with their 2 children suckling on them from underneath? Why were all the men covered so carefully with a leaf? Why were there so many wild animals attacking people, like rhinos? Anyways, that was the museum, or at least my opinion of the museum!
Here's hoping I can sleep tonight! Miss you all!
I'll leave you with me and my new hat that Kate knitted for me (yes orange Alpaca yarn)
