1) Anything to do with the metric system (Thanks for that America!). The littlest things are extremely challenging: shopping for underwear, telling someone your height and weight, shopping for children's clothes or any clothes really.
2) Smoking in restaurants. That doesn't come too much of a surprise and needs no explanation.
3) Pushy people, especially in stores and ski lines.
4) T-bars! Oh the wonderful t-bar. Who invented that anyways? I'd like to give them a piece of my mind. Let me paint you a picture. There are about 10 t-bars at least on this mountain and of course I have to use them. The first time I snuck on with some chick and it was fine except for being so lovey dovey close to a person I did not know nor could I talk to her. The next time, I saw the sign: "Self-service." Hmmm...I didn't see that before. I have no idea how to grab a hold of this stupid bar by myself. I see a Mom and kid fall off, a dad and kid loose 3 bars. Then it was my turn. I got the bar, but it was not behind my butt. I was holding onto it and it was infront of me. So yes, I held onto this bar for dear life all the way up the freakin' mountain! Everytime there was an incline and the bar jerked forward to pull, it also felt like it was puling my arm out of the socket. But I stayed on!! Oh how I hate those T-bars!!
5) 6 Person chairlifts. At this point it is the end of the day and I'm tired and all that. So I take the spot on the far left to sit on the chair. The bar comes down and starts crushing my leg. Well I can't speak fuckin' German so I say "Hold on." Nope, the bar continued to go down. I luckily can shimmy my leg out so it's not completely crushed. If I was smart I would have realized the bar went between your legs as it was with EVERYONE else. But I am not. And so my two legs and body sat on half of a seat. It felt like the longest ride ever! Oh and the bar goes up literally a second before you have to get off.
6)Grocery stores that close at 4:30. Yes that's right. Did you think I should assume stores close that early? Because I didn't.
7)A bus that says it's going where you need to go and then fuckin' doesn't. But thank you bus driver who drove me to the spot where the bus I should have been on was waiting for me because you called him.
8) Inaccurate route maps. Yep, if you say you're going to have 4 stops in Bad Goisern, why should I assume otherwise?
9) Not being able to talk to ANYONE or understand ANYTHING!! Yeah, maybe one word out of 20, maybe, maybe I get one. I did not realize how alone it is to not speak the language. It's a very lonely and scary thing.
10) No ice! I need ice in drinks.
Alright, that list is probably good for now. I'm sure I could think of 20 more things I hate, but I will stop. Who likes hearing that anyways?
So...
Things I Like:
1) Snow covered mountains.
2) Getting my first glass of free water at a restaurant. Sure it was tap, but it was the first time I ever had tap water at a restaurant. I could get used to that.
3) Getting a whole chairlift to myself and singing the entire way! I liked it sooo much I did the same dumb trail again, so I could ride up by myself :) I may spend the whole day there tomorrow.
4) Sunny days!! I'll take it, even if I'm bundled up.
I will post a few pictures of my Austrian Ski Trip when I return.
Guten Abend!
